The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds. Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team ran a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running. The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight. Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
